I have been struggling a little recently with what to write about on my blog.
I love sharing food recipes, and giving updates about our lives in Toronto – things to do and what not. However, what I really love is writing my expat diary posts. Giving the nitty-gritty real life kind of stuff – the good, the bad and the ugly.
Only, at the moment, I feel like I don’t know what to say – because life is kind of normal. I have got over that 3 month hurdle, I’ve come to accept the initial difficulties with moving abroad and I’ve started to try and establish my life here.
And that’s why I have decided to start my ‘Happy Hour’ series.
I will continue to write my regular posts. This will be an additional (hopefully) bi-weekly series looking into what makes us happy and how we can be happy – focusing on, yet not exclusive to, expats/ living in a new place.
Why have I decided to start writing this now?
- It touches upon my interests. I enjoy understanding the psychology of human behaviour.
- I have been inspired by books such as Gretchen Rubin’s ‘The Happiness Project’ – and wanted to do something similar
- I touched upon this subject a couple of months back in my Expedition of Happiness post. I loved writing it and also found it had a good response from readers.
- I think by writing this series, it will push me to go out of my comfort zone and force me to try new things.
What has made me smile over the past week?
- Being Unpacked
Anyone who has been following my blog closely will know that we were waiting about 3.5 months for the boxes we shipped from England to Toronto to arrive.
Our lack of ‘stuff’ is what inspired my ‘Cooking with half a kitchen’ themed recipes.
Anyway, the boxes have arrived and we are finally unpacked. As I had forgotten what we shipped in the first place, we now own a ridiculous amount of kitchen stuff. It is definitely nice to be feeling a little more cluttered and a little more homely!
- The fact it is only just July
Having a long, sunny summer is such a novelty to me! I can’t believe it’s only just July and we have already had 2 months of pretty much uninterrupted glorious weather.
And people keep telling me this will last well into September.
Seasons are fantastic here.
I could write a whole post on why I am SO glad I started a blog – maybe I will at some point…
To cut to the point though, writing again makes me so happy. I used to be terrified of sharing my work with others. Writing was something incredibly private to me.
However, starting a blog has given me such a buzz. Every time someone visits my site, likes a post or comments it’s like I have just been injected with a big dose of happiness.
So please do keep the comments coming.
Writing my blog has also opened new doors for me. It’s kept me busy over the past few months in the gaps where I haven’t been working – and it has also given me the confidence to write guest posts on other blogs and websites.
I am hoping to write my first Happy Hour post in the next couple of weeks.
In the meantime I am interested to know, what makes you happy?
